THE FRENCH UNIVERSITY OF EGYPT Role and challenges of information technology in the Euro-Mediterranean partnerships
Smart Village, Cairo, 20th November 2011
Information technologies are presently the most powerful engine of economic growths, and the first provider of highly skilled jobs all over the world. In Egypt, dozens of European enterprises are settled, looking for skills, partnerships and markets. Their activity significantly contributes to the Egyptian economy growth, and their needs in engineers trained along the European standards are considerable. Besides helping those already present to push ahead their business in Egypt, the availability of such skills is also likely to encourage new European investments to come to Egypt.
The French University of Egypt, with the collaboration of ITIDA (Information Technology Industry Development Agency) and the Smart Villages Company, will welcome on the 19th and 20th of November 2011 delegations from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, from Inria and from the Sophia Antipolis Foundation in order to establish partnerships in the domain of information technologies and communication.
Three conventions (UFE-UNS, UFE-INRIA and UFE-ITIDA-SVC-FSA) will be signed during this event whose objectives will be :
To assist in the establishment of Software Engineering specialization at the French University of Egypt. The final year of this specialization will be coupled with a Master 2 IFI from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis. This specialization will be able to provide the Egyptian work market and especially the innovative companies installed in Smart Village Technology Park with operational and practical engineers with high caliber competence of satisfying the need of these companies.
To establish this academic and scientific partnership as part of a dynamic economic and technological Euro-Mediterranean partnership (with an Egyptian-French axe) in the domain of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
A small symposium will be conducted on the evening of the 20th of November. Several speakers will seek to clarify the role and the different challenges of new technologies in the Euro-Mediterranean development, especially Franco-Egyptian development.
The event of the 20th of November will mark the strong desire of the French and Egyptian partners to collaborate together in the professional teaching and training of UFE students in the areas of ICT, and also in the development of medium-term R&D projects which will encourage partnerships between universities, research institutes and companies.
These partnerships, based on the graduation courses conducted within companies and co-supervised thesis, will eventually lead to joint ventures between European and Egyptian companies.
