Languages, Cultures, and Professionally- oriented Education under Globalization: Business and Translation within the Euro-Arab Framework
April 18-20, 2010 Cairo, Egypt A Trilingual Conference (French, English, Arabic)
The Faculty of Applied Languages at the French University in Egypt in collaboration with the Faculty of Foreign Applied Languages at the University of Paris 3- Sorbonne Nouvelle organizes an international conference. As a result, it will share the world’s great concern about languages, interactive cultures, and professionally-oriented education in society that was shown by the early 21st century. Languages and cultures are dealt within a specialized framework: business and international commerce, and specialized translation. These are offered by both the French University in Egypt and the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle- Paris 3. The conference is devoted to both specific and general tracks to be attended by various guests: academics, professional translators, and the university graduates.
Hence, we suggest three conference tracks:
First Track : Applied Languages: professionally-oriented academic education.
Second Track : Mastering languages and cultures in the world of business.
Third Track : Translation and the interaction of cultures and languages.
We invite you to participate in one of the following topics in French, English, or Arabic. N.B.: simultaneous interpretation is available
First Track- Applied Languages: Professionally-oriented Academic Education
1. Introducing applied languages education and its significance in the Middle East.
• Mastering languages and professional skills under globalization.
2. Applied languages: a link between the academic and the professional world:
• The expectations and the needs of the professional translator. • The Faculty of Applied Languages teaching methodology.
Second Track: Mastering Languages and Cultures in the World of Business:
1. Language and communication, and the language of communication within the international negotiation framework:
• The implicit and explicit communication behavior within the international commercial relations. • Negotiations: interaction between languages, cultures, and societies. • The influence of the translator and the simultaneous interpreter in the international negotiations.
2. Language and International Commerce:
• The language of multinational companies. • The linguistic strategies in companies established abroad.
Third Track: Translation and the Interaction of Cultures and Languages:
1. Translation methodology and the tools of the translator under globalization: • The current role of the Arab World in developing translation theories and methodologies. • Terminology databases and the needs of the researcher and translator under globalization.
2. The translator’s cultural role: • The translator and the dialogue between cultures: case study. • The publishers and their attitudes towards the translator’s intervention. • The privacy of translating official documents (accords and agreements) in a modern technology-rich world.

Abstract:
E-mail a 300 word abstract to the conference’s organizers on colloque.la ufe.edu.eg by December 15, 2009. The abstract should be written in the language of the presentation in Times New Roman Font 12. It should entail the presenter’s name, the affiliated organization, the title of the presentation, and at least 5 key words. It is preferable to be attached with another copy in one of the other languages assigned by the conference. The presentation is 20 min. long followed by 10 min. for discussion and questions.

Registration Fees for Egyptians :
All attendees: 200 pounds
Ph.D. researchers: 50 pounds

The registration fees do not include the hotel accommodation.
